In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful | |
when the sky is torn apart, (1) | | إِذَا السَّمَاء انشَقَّتْ ﴿1﴾ |
hearing and obeying its lord, as it must do; (2) | | وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿2﴾ |
when the earth is stretched out (3) | | وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ ﴿3﴾ |
and casts out all that is within and voids itself, (4) | | وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ﴿4﴾ |
obeying its lord, as it must do!
o human, you are working hard towards your lord and you will meet him.
then, he who is given his book in his right hand (7) | | فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ ﴿7﴾ |
shall have an easy reckoning (8) | | فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا ﴿8﴾ |
and will return rejoicing to his family.
but he who is given his book from behind his back (10) | | وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاء ظَهْرِهِ ﴿10﴾ |
shall call for destruction (11) | | فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا ﴿11﴾ |
and roast at the blaze.
once, he lived joyfully among his family (13) | | إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا ﴿13﴾ |
and surely thought he would never return (to his lord).
yes indeed, his lord was ever watching him.
i swear by the twilight; (16) | | فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ ﴿16﴾ |
by the night and all that it envelops; (17) | | وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ﴿17﴾ |
by the moon, in its fullness (18) | | وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ ﴿18﴾ |
that you shall surely ride from stage to stage.
what is the matter with them, that they do not believe (20) | | فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿20﴾ |
and when the koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate!
no, the unbelievers only belie, (22) | | بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَ ﴿22﴾ |
and allah knows very well what they gather.
therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, (24) | | فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ﴿24﴾ |
except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense.
