In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful | | بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
no, i swear by this country (mecca), (1) | | لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ ﴿1﴾ |
and you are a lodger in this country. (2) | | وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ ﴿2﴾ |
and by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, (3) | | وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﴿3﴾ |
we created the human in fatigue. (4) | | لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ ﴿4﴾ |
does he think that none has power over him! (5) | | أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ ﴿5﴾ |
he will say: 'i have destroyed a vast wealth. ' (6) | | يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا ﴿6﴾ |
does he think that none has observed him? (7) | | أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿7﴾ |
have we not given him two eyes, (8) | | أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ ﴿8﴾ |
a tongue, and two lips, (9) | | وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ ﴿9﴾ |
and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? (10) | | وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ ﴿10﴾ |
yet he has not scaled the height. (11) | | فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ ﴿11﴾ |
what could let you know what the height is! (12) | | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ ﴿12﴾ |
(it is) the freeing of a slave, (13) | | فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ ﴿13﴾ |
the giving of food upon the day of hunger (14) | | أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ ﴿14﴾ |
to an orphaned relative (15) | | يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ ﴿15﴾ |
or to a needy person in distress; (16) | | أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ ﴿16﴾ |
so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. (17) | | ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ ﴿17﴾ |
those are the companions of the right. (18) | | أُوْلَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ ﴿18﴾ |
but those who disbelieve in our verses, they are the companions of the left, (19) | | وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ ﴿19﴾ |
with the fire closed above them. (20) | | عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ ﴿20﴾ |
