we created you then we shaped you, then we said to the angels: 'prostrate yourselves before adam. ' they all prostrated themselves except iblis he was not among the prostrated. (11) | | وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلآئِكَةِ اسْجُدُواْ لآدَمَ فَسَجَدُواْ إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَمْ يَكُن مِّنَ السَّاجِدِينَ ﴿11﴾ |
he (allah) asked: 'what prevented you to prostrate, when i commanded you? ' 'i am better than he, ' he replied. 'you created me of fire and you created him of clay. ' (12) | | قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلاَّ تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ قَالَ أَنَاْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ ﴿12﴾ |
he (allah) said: 'descend from it! this is no place for you to be proud. begone, you are of the humiliated. ' (13) | | قَالَ فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَاخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ ﴿13﴾ |
he replied: 'respite me till the day of resurrection. ' (14) | | قَالَ أَنظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ ﴿14﴾ |
said he (allah): 'you are among the respited, ' (15) | | قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ المُنظَرِينَ ﴿15﴾ |
he answered: 'because you have caused me to go astray, i will waylay them as they walk on your straight path, (16) | | قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ﴿16﴾ |
and come upon them from the front and from the rear, from their right and from their left. then, you shall find most of them ungrateful. ' (17) | | ثُمَّ لآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَآئِلِهِمْ وَلاَ تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ ﴿17﴾ |
'begone! ' said he, 'despised and outcast. (as for) those of them that follow you, i shall fill gehenna (hell) with all of you. ' (18) | | قَالَ اخْرُجْ مِنْهَا مَذْؤُومًا مَّدْحُورًا لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ لأَمْلأنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ﴿18﴾ |
'o adam dwell with your wife in paradise, and eat from whatever you please; but never approach this tree or you shall both become harmdoers. ' (19) | | وَيَا آدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ فَكُلاَ مِنْ حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلاَ تَقْرَبَا هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ ﴿19﴾ |
but satan whispered to them, so that he might reveal to them their shameful parts which had been hidden from them, he said: 'your lord has prohibited you from this tree lest you both become angels or become among the immortal. ' (20) | | فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ لِيُبْدِيَ لَهُمَا مَا وُورِيَ عَنْهُمَا مِن سَوْءَاتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَاكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ إِلاَّ أَن تَكُونَا مَلَكَيْنِ أَوْ تَكُونَا مِنَ الْخَالِدِينَ ﴿20﴾ |
