In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful | |
by the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), (1) | | وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا ﴿1﴾ |
by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), (2) | | وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا ﴿2﴾ |
by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently (3) | | وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا ﴿3﴾ |
and the outstrippers (angels), outstripping, (4) | | فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا ﴿4﴾ |
by the managers (angels) affair.
on the day, the shiverer shivers (6) | | يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ ﴿6﴾ |
followed by the succeeding, (7) | | تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ ﴿7﴾ |
hearts will throb on that day (8) | | قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ ﴿8﴾ |
and their eyes will be humbled.
they say: 'what, are we being restored as we were before, (10) | | يَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ ﴿10﴾ |
even after we are fragmented bones?
they will say: 'then we are returned lost!
but it will be only a single blow, (13) | | فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ ﴿13﴾ |
and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive).
have you received the story of moses?
his lord called to him in the sacred valley of towa, (16) | | إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى ﴿16﴾ |
saying 'go to pharaoh, he has become exceedingly insolent, (17) | | اذْهَبْ إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَى ﴿17﴾ |
and say: "will you purify yourself, (18) | | فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَى أَن تَزَكَّى ﴿18﴾ |
that i might guide you to your lord, so that you fear (him)."
he showed him the mighty sign, (20) | | فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَى ﴿20﴾ |
but he belied and disobeyed, (21) | | فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَى ﴿21﴾ |
and hastily turned away, (22) | | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَى ﴿22﴾ |
then, he gathered, proclaimed, then said: (23) | | فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَى ﴿23﴾ |
'i am your lord, the most high!
so allah seized him with the punishment of the everlasting life, and of this world.
surely, in this there is a lesson for he that fears!
what, are you harder to create than the heaven which he has built?
he raised it high and leveled it, (28) | | رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا ﴿28﴾ |
and darkened its night and brought forth its morning.
and the earth he extended after that; (30) | | وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ دَحَاهَا ﴿30﴾ |
and then brought from it its water and pastures.
and the mountains he set firm (32) | | وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا ﴿32﴾ |
an enjoyment for you and your herds.
but when the great catastrophe comes, (34) | | فَإِذَا جَاءتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى ﴿34﴾ |
the day when the human will remember what he has worked for, (35) | | يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَى ﴿35﴾ |
and when hell is advanced for whoever sees, (36) | | وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَى ﴿36﴾ |
then as for whosoever was insolent (37) | | فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَى ﴿37﴾ |
preferring the present life, (38) | | وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا ﴿38﴾ |
surely, hell will be their refuge.
but, whosoever feared the standing before his lord and prevented the self from desires, (40) | | وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَى ﴿40﴾ |
indeed, their refuge shall be paradise.
they will question you about the hour: 'when shall it be?
but how are you to know?
its final end is for your lord.
you are but a warner for those who fear it.
on the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had lingered but an evening, or, a morning.
