In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
kaafhaya'aeensaad. (1)
كهيعص ﴿1﴾
a mention of the mercy of your lord to his worshiper zachariah, (2)
ذِكْرُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ عَبْدَهُ زَكَرِيَّا ﴿2﴾
when he called upon his lord in secret, (3)
إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ نِدَاء خَفِيًّا ﴿3﴾
saying: 'o my lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. yet, never lord, have i been unblessed in prayer to you. (4)
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي وَهَنَ الْعَظْمُ مِنِّي وَاشْتَعَلَ الرَّأْسُ شَيْبًا وَلَمْ أَكُن بِدُعَائِكَ رَبِّ شَقِيًّا ﴿4﴾
indeed, i fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. grant me a kinsman (5)
وَإِنِّي خِفْتُ الْمَوَالِيَ مِن وَرَائِي وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتِي عَاقِرًا فَهَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّا ﴿5﴾
who will be my heir and an heir to the house of jacob, and make him, my lord, satisfied. ' (6)
يَرِثُنِي وَيَرِثُ مِنْ آلِ يَعْقُوبَ وَاجْعَلْهُ رَبِّ رَضِيًّا ﴿6﴾
'o zachariah, we give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called john (yahya); a name we have never given before. ' (7)
يَا زَكَرِيَّا إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ اسْمُهُ يَحْيَى لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِيًّا ﴿7﴾
'how shall i have a son, lord, ' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and i am advanced in years? ' (8)
قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّى يَكُونُ لِي غُلَامٌ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتِي عَاقِرًا وَقَدْ بَلَغْتُ مِنَ الْكِبَرِ عِتِيًّا ﴿8﴾
he replied: 'it shall be so; your lord says: "it is easy for me, indeed, i created you before time when you were not a thing." (9)
قَالَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَقَدْ خَلَقْتُكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ تَكُ شَيْئًا ﴿9﴾
he (zachariah) said: 'lord, make for me a sign. ' he replied: 'your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault. ' (10)
قَالَ رَبِّ اجْعَل لِّي آيَةً قَالَ آيَتُكَ أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ النَّاسَ ثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ سَوِيًّا ﴿10﴾
